Sharing & Swarming

Nube uses a peer-to-peer (P2P) model for sharing. There are no intermediate servers; data moves directly between users.

Importing Content

When you receive a Nube link, you can “pull” it into your own fabric.

Using the CLI

nube pull "nube://import/..."

Using the Protocol Handler

On systems where Nube is installed, simply clicking a nube:// link in your browser or chat application will trigger the Nube Import dialog.

Privacy & Identity Disclosure

Nube is designed with a privacy-first architecture. By default, your identity is completely private. Other peers in the network will only see your cryptographic PeerID and cannot access any profile details (such as your name, email, or phone number).

You can control how and when you disclose your profile details using two mechanisms:

Global Disclosure

If you wish to identify yourself to everyone you connect with in the swarm, you can set the Identity Disclosure setting to Disclose Globally in the Settings tab. This will make your name, email, and phone number visible to any peer that connects directly to your node.

Per-Share Disclosure

If you want to remain anonymous in general but identify yourself only for a specific shared folder, you can do so when creating the share:

  1. Right-click the folder and select Share.

  2. Check the Disclose Identity option in the Share Link dialog.

  3. Generate and send the link.

Peers importing and accessing that specific share will be authorized to request and view your identity profile, while other nodes in the swarm will continue to see you as an anonymous peer.

How it Works

  1. Announcement: When you share a file, your node tells the global DHT (Distributed Hash Table) that it provides that content.

  2. Lookup: When someone imports your link, their node looks up your PeerID in the DHT to find your current IP address.

  3. Transfer: The two nodes connect directly (using NAT hole-punching if necessary) and transfer the data over an encrypted stream.
